Five Fairfax County Companies Make Black Enterprise 100 List

More top black-owned firms located in Fairfax than elsewhere in Washington area or Virginia

Fairfax County, Virginia, May 24, 2000 — Five companies headquartered in Fairfax County made Black Enterprise magazine's list of the nation's 100 largest black-owned industrial and service businesses based on 1999 sales. The rankings are contained in the magazine's June issue. The five companies represent half of the 10 Virginia companies on the latest B.E. Industrial/Service 100, and more than a third of the 13 Washington-area companies on the annual list.

The Fairfax County companies, their business lines and rankings:

  • Omniplex World Services Corporation, facilities operations, security and investigations — no. 51
  • INNOLOG, systems engineering — no. 61
  • RS Information Systems, Inc., IT services and consulting — no. 68
  • Universal Systems & Technology, Inc., multimedia training, systems engineering and telecommunications — no. 70
  • Metters Industries, IT consulting and systems integration — no. 78

In addition, Fairfax County-born Thompson Hospitality Corporation, which manages restaurant food and contract food services, is ranked no. 91 on the list. The company moved its headquarters out of the county in January.

"This year's BE 100 list demonstrates again that Fairfax County is a land of opportunity for all business people," said Gerald L. Gordon, president of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).
