Fairfax County Companies Add 1,755 Jobs in March and April
Eight international firms pace 15 companies that created jobs
Fairfax County, Virginia, May 30, 2000 Fifteen corporations including eight international firms announced in March that they would expand in or relocate operations to Fairfax County. The companies will add 1,755 jobs to the economy, according to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
Most of the companies that reported employment gains are technology-based. Nextel, a leader in wireless phone service, topped the list by adding 700 jobs. Based in Reston, Va., Nextel is expanding service around the world and through the Internet. WebMethods, a Fairfax-based XML software developer that is expanding its West Coast and Asian customer base, added 225 jobs. ECI Telecom, an Israeli telecommunications company, added 200 jobs to its Herndon operations, leading foreign firms in job growth.
