Fairfax County Flies with Another Aerospace Corporate Headquarters
Fairchild Dornier leaves Texas, chooses Virginia over other east coast states
Fairfax County, Virginia, November 14, 2000 Fairchild Dornier, a leading aerospace company, announced today that its corporate U.S. headquarters is moving to Fairfax County, Virginia from San Antonio, Texas. Fairchild Dornier will employ 50 persons initially and plans to increase employment to 150 within a year. The company chose Fairfax County for the $15 million investment after considering several other east coast locations.
The company will land at 12801 Worldgate Drive in Herndon.
Fairfax County was chosen because of the large number of Fairchild Dornier customers in the area, transportation, quality of life and the number of aerospace talent in the region, said Barry Eccleston, executive vice president of the corporation. Fairchild Dornier's senior leadership, sales and marketing and product support personnel will operate out of the new facility.
Fairchild Dornier joins other high-profile aerospace companies in Fairfax County. General Dynamics and the Logicon division of Northrop Grumman are headquartered in the county, and Airbus Industrie, BAE Systems (parent of British Aerospace), CASA Aircraft, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin have operations here.
Fairchild Dornier supplies jets for Atlantic Coast Airlines, which is based at Washington Dulles International Airport and flies as United Express and the Delta Connection.
"Fairfax County has attracted many of the world's aerospace companies because of our workforce and because of the marketing possibilities, and we are excited to welcome another high flyer," said Dr. Gerald L. Gordon, president of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
Fairchild Dornier is a leading manufacturer of jet aircraft for the airline, corporate and government markets and provides a wide range of sales, support, production and engineering services for the aviation industry. The corporation was created in 1996 from an acquisition of Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH of Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich, Germany by Fairchild Aircraft.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority provides a wide array of services and information designed to promote Fairfax County as a world center of commerce and trade. Visit the FCEDA Web site at www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org.
