Three Fairfax County Companies Vie for Investors at Atlanta Venture Fair
Fairfax County, Virginia March 5, 2001 Three Fairfax County technology companies will try to secure venture capital at Venture Market South this week in Atlanta.
At the event, 32 companies from around the South will make presentations about their products and services to potential investors. The Fairfax County companies are:
- Abyan which develops software used to build Web sites.
- Roku Technologies, which develops software that enables users to access their e-mail, files and contacts from any Web browser, digital phone, text pager or personal digital assistant.
- ServerVault (www.servervault.com), which provides managed Web and application hosting services, data storage, and distributed computing services.
Through its Capital Attraction Program, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) nominated the three companies for the fair. "These firms are indicative of the excellent technology companies that populate Fairfax County," said Gerald L. Gordon, PhD., President of the FCEDA.
Venture Market South is hosted by Red Herring magazine, which hosts similar forums elsewhere in the U.S. and in Europe. The FCEDA is a co-sponsor of the Red Herring events.
Since 1996 the FCEDA has run an aggressive capital attraction program with two goals: link entrepreneurs and start-up technology companies with investors, and promote Fairfax County as a site for venture capital deal-flow.
Venture investment in 107 Fairfax County companies totaled $1.25 billion in 2000, up from $614.5 million invested in 55 companies in 1999. Thirty venture capital firms and organizations have offices in Fairfax County.
The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA maintains marketing offices in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
