Fourteen Fairfax County Companies Picked for Regional Venture Capital Fair

No other locality will have as many companies at MAVA event, FCEDA says

Fairfax County, Virginia, May 7, 2001— Fourteen Fairfax County companies are among 50 that have been picked to make presentations this month at the Capital Connection 2001 venture capital fair presented by the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association. No other locality will have as many companies at the event, said the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).

Capital Connection 2001 is set for May 29-30 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Capital Connection is the largest venture capital fair in the mid-Atlantic region. Almost $2.2 billion was invested in companies that made presentations at the event between 1990 and 1999, according to the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (www.mava.org).

The 14 Fairfax County companies are among 23 from Virginia picked for Capital Connection 2001. Many of the Fairfax County companies picked for the event are developing products to help businesses use the Internet more efficiently, expand their Internet presence, or monitor their Internet services. About half of the presenting companies have received venture capital previously while the others are going for their first round of institutional funding.

More than 30 venture capital firms and organizations have offices in Fairfax County, the most in the Washington, D.C., region. More than 100 Fairfax County companies received more than $1.25 billion in venture capital during 2000, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers Money Tree Survey.

"Fairfax County continues to be the number one place in the region where Internet-focused companies locate and grow, which is why our companies continue to be so prominent at VC events," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org).

The Fairfax County companies picked to make presentations at Capital Connection 2001 are:

  • AperServ Technologies Inc.
  • BioNetrix Systems Corp.
  • Didera Inc.
  • iLumin Corp.
  • InphoMatch Inc.
