Eight Fairfax County Companies Make Black Enterprise 100 List
More top black-owned firms located in Fairfax County than elsewhere in Washington area or Virginia, FCEDA says
Fairfax County, Virginia, May 18, 2001 Eight technology companies headquartered in Fairfax County are part of Black Enterprise magazine's annual rankings of the nation's 100 largest black-owned industrial and service businesses based on 2000 sales, according to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). The eight companies represent two-thirds of the 12 Virginia firms on the list and more than half of the 14 Washington-area companies on it.
Five Fairfax County companies made the list last year.
This year's rankings are contained in the June issue of Black Enterprise. The Fairfax County companies, their business lines and rankings:
8. Netcom Solutions International, IT services
44. RS Information Systems, Inc., IT services and consulting
46. Omniplex World Services Corporation, facilities operations, security and investigations.
73. Universal Systems & Technology, Inc., multimedia training, systems engineering and telecommunications
77. Innovative Logistics Techniques (INNOLOG), systems engineering
78. ITS Services Inc., IT services
80. Metters Industries, IT consulting and systems integration
98. JIL Information Systems, IT services
"I am not surprised that Fairfax County companies dominate the Washington and Virginia totals but I think it is astounding that 8 percent of the largest African-American companies in the nation are based in our county," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA.
On July 11-13, 2001, Fairfax County will host the first-ever Emerging Business Forum, a conference that will help African-American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Indian-American and Native American technology entrepreneurs find ways to get more business, funding and networking opportunities. For more information on the conference, visit www.emergingbusinessforum.org or call 703-790-0304.
The FCEDA promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA has a program to assist small, minority and women-owned firms. The FCEDA maintains marketing offices in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
