Fairfax County soars with Boeing's Air Traffic Management Division office
Governor Warner attends opening in first economic development visit to northern Virginia
Fairfax County, Virginia, March 21, 2002 Gov. Mark Warner today helped the Boeing Company officially open the Fairfax County office of its Air Traffic Management Division, which adds 100 jobs to the Fairfax County economy.
The visit was the first economic development trip to northern Virginia for Governor Warner, who took office Jan. 12.
The Boeing office is at 7901 Jones Branch Drive in the Tysons Corner area.
Boeing, the largest aerospace company in the world, created the Air Traffic Management Division in late 2000 to develop new technology to respond to growing concerns about air traffic congestion and delays and security concerns.
“Our goal was to find a location that was close to our hub of activity, with ready access to airports,” said John Hayhurst, Air Traffic Management president. “In terms of the facility, we needed one that would encourage teaming and fulfill our requirements for virtual connectivity with our co-workers and partners, and we found it here in Fairfax County, one of the nation’s premier high tech hubs.”
"We are proud to add Boeing's Air Traffic Management Division to the large roster of aerospace work done in Fairfax County. Any time a company comes to Fairfax it enhances our reputation as a world-class business center," said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). "Boeing has been a good corporate citizen in Fairfax County over the years, and the county is a good fit for the Air Traffic Management Division because of a highly trained work force and the county’s proximity to Washington."
The FCEDA (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA also has marketing representatives in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
