Seven Fairfax County companies make annual Black Enterprise 100 list

Fourteen from Washington, D.C., area on list of largest African-American firms

Fairfax County, Virginia, May 22, 2002 - Seven technology companies based in Fairfax County are among the 100 largest African American-owned service/industrial firms in the country, according to Black Enterprise magazine. The magazine ranks the companies by revenue and features the 2002 list in its June edition.

The seven Fairfax County companies represent half of the 14 Washington, D.C.-area companies on the BE 100 list. Overall, 13 firms from Virginia and four from Maryland are on the 30th annual list.

The only city or county in the United States with more companies on the list than Fairfax County is Detroit (11). The only states with more companies on the list than Fairfax County are Michigan (20), Illinois and New York (eight each).

The seven Fairfax County companies ranked on the 2002 BE 100 list are:

"You'd be hard-pressed to find another community that is as open to minority-owned businesses as Fairfax County. This is one of the premier places in the country for business people from all backgrounds to live and prosper," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA.

On October 20-22, 2002, Fairfax County will host the second annual Emerging Business Forum, a conference that helps culturally diverse entrepreneurs develop skills to get better access to partners and customers, mentors and sources of capital. The FCEDA created and developed the concept of the Forum.

FCEDA promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA has a program to assist small, minority and women-owned firms. The FCEDA maintains marketing offices in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
