Fairfax County lands major expansion of STG Inc. headquarters operation
Government IT, engineering services provider plans to add 700 jobs over three years
Fairfax County, Virginia, Nov. 27, 2002 – Gov. Mark R. Warner today announced that STG, Inc., a government information technology, scientific, and engineering services provider, plans to create more than 700 new jobs through a $15 million investment in Fairfax County over the next three years.
The investment includes the expansion of the company’s corporate headquarters in Fairfax County, as well as the continued investment in testing laboratories, security and network operations centers. Virginia competed with Maryland and Washington, D.C. for the investment.
“Virginia is proud to have this leading information technology firm headquartered in Northern Virginia’s high-tech corridor,” Governor Warner said. “By creating 700 new jobs in Fairfax County, STG will benefit from the many IT resources and knowledge workers available in the region.”
STG provides IS0 9001:2000 certified enterprise support, security engineering, telecommunications, information management, and IT solutions to both civilian and Department of Defense government agencies. Since its formation in 1986, STG has grown to more than 1,700 employees, $170 million in revenue, and has a corporate presence in Europe, Asia, Canada and across the United States. STG's family of companies includes DSTI, PSC, and Information1st.
Simon S. Lee, President and CEO of STG, Inc., described why northern Virginia was so important to the company. “Key to our success is our ability to recruit from the technical talent that northern Virginia offers,” Lee said. “We have aggressively grown our company through acquisitions and major contract awards. We currently have over 80 percent of our engineers with secret and above clearances, which is vital to supporting our clients and their national security initiatives.”
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership assisted STG with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide work force training services.

Hanley. “Our proximity to Washington and our skilled work force make Fairfax County a great base for the wide variety of work the company does on behalf of government agencies.”
