Fairfax County hits the jackpot
with seven Fortune 500 companies
Homebuilder NVR is newest addition to local list,
FCEDA says
Fairfax County, Virginia, April 1, 2003—Seven Fairfax County-based companies are on Fortune magazine’s 2003 list of the largest companies in America. Six county-based companies that made the annual list last year are back and joined by a leading homebuilder.
Rankings are based on company revenue. The list is in the April 14 issue of Fortune.
The seven Fairfax County companies, listed by place on the 2003 list, business interests, and 2002 rankings (in parentheses):
32. Freddie Mac, mortgage financing (41)
137. General Dynamics, defense contracting and aviation (166)
191. Capital One Financial, financial services (260)
216. Nextel Communications, mobile communications (252)
275. Gannett, publishing and television (287)
473. Sallie Mae, student loan financing (450)
482. NVR, homebuilding (new to Fortune 500)
