Fairfax County to gain 900 jobs as Unisys consolidates and expands division headquarters

Company’s Global Public Sector to expand over three years, FCEDA says

Fairfax County, Virginia, April 16, 2003 – Unisys, a worldwide information technology services company that had $5.6 billion in revenue in 2002, will consolidate its Global Public Sector headquarters in Fairfax County and create up to 900 jobs over three years, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority announced today.

Many of the new jobs will be technical, managerial and administrative positions, some of which will be created to help the company manage a large U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) contract. Under the Information Technology Managed Services contract, Unisys will provide IT and telecommunications services to the TSA, the agency created after Sept. 11, 2001, to ensure safety throughout the nation’s transportation systems.

Unisys Global Public Sector, which includes the company’s U.S. Federal Government Group, will consolidate in a 275,000-square foot building in Fairfax County. The company also plans to lease an additional 145,000 square feet of office space in the county. Unisys (www.unisys.com) expects to complete the expansion in 2005.

“Fairfax County, the state and the governor’s office have been tremendously supportive as we sought space in which to consolidate operations and grow our business,” said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Global Public Sector. “In addition to providing our team with a superior working environment, remaining in Fairfax County allows us to continue drawing upon the talented local work force.”

“Unisys has been a terrific corporate citizen of Fairfax County for years, and this is exactly the kind of operation that can benefit from our proximity to Washington, D.C., our skilled work force and the quality of life here,” said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).

The FCEDA and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership assisted Unisys with its decision. Unisys qualifies for a Major Business Facility Job Tax Credit, a statutory incentive available to all qualifying companies. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide work force training services.
