Four companies, Commonwealth of Virginia win
2003 Emerging Business Forum awards
Awards ceremony closes out third annual conference for diversely led businesses
Fairfax County, Virginia, October 10, 2003 – Four companies, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and Fairfax County Economic Development Authority staffers won 2003 Emerging Business Forum awards at a luncheon ceremony that closed the third annual conference for minority and female entrepreneurs.
EBF2003 ran from Oct. 8-10 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in Fairfax County. The event drew 250 executives of early-stage and established companies. Sessions centered on doing business with established companies and government agencies, and entrepreneurship and public policy. The awards ceremony followed a keynote address by Michael Barrera, national ombudsman of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Alex Orfinger, publisher of the Washington Business Journal, presented the awards. Award winners are:
- American Dream Award for overcoming racial, ethnic or gender barriers to become a successful business: Cultura, medical health spa, Washington, D.C.; AnthroTronix, physical rehabilitation technology, College Park, Md.; STG Inc., IT and engineering services, Fairfax, Va.
- Building Bridges Award for successful partnerships between established and emerging companies: Aspen Group, management services, Silver Spring, Md., and Fannie Mae, mortgage securities, Washington, D.C.; Digital Solutions Inc., IT services, Manassas, Va., and RS Information Systems Inc., IT services, McLean, Va.
- EBF Sponsor Award for outstanding contributions from a conference sponsor: Commonwealth of Virginia for three years of support
- EBF Chairman’s Award presented by EBF Chairman James W. Dyke Jr.: Robin Fenner and Karen Smaw, Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
