Fairfax County BioAccelerator business incubator wins $25,000 state grant to build program services

Money will be used to bring in industry experts to aid BioAccelerator client companies

Fairfax County, Virginia, October 23, 2003—The Fairfax County BioAccelerator, a bioscience business incubator created by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), will receive a $25,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Gov. Mark Warner announced today.

The money will be used to increase business development services at the BioAccelerator, by allowing the center to hire consultants who are experts in bioscience-related fields and to fund technology commercialization workshops, said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “We are very grateful. The state money will help build successful bioscience companies that will further diversify and strengthen the Fairfax County economy,” he said.

The Fairfax County grant was part of $150,000 awarded for eight incubators around the commonwealth.

The FCEDA created the BioAccelerator to be a catalyst for the bioscience industry in northern Virginia, create a new employment base for the Springfield community in which it is located, and further diversify the Fairfax County economic base.

The BioAccelerator is designed to house 10-12 early-stage companies based in the U.S. or overseas. It is being managed by ANGLE Technology Group. ANGLE Technology also works with “virtual” clients companies that participate in the business development program but do not take space in the BioAccelerator.
