Fairfax County becomes first U.S. county
to open office in India
County’s fifth overseas office is located in high-tech Bangalore to work with companies interested in expansion to the U.S.
Fairfax County, Virginia, August 10, 2004 —The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) has opened an office in Bangalore, India, to work with Indian technology companies interested in expanding into the United States. Fairfax County, in northern Virginia just outside Washington, D.C., is the first U.S. county to open a marketing office in India. The Bangalore office is the fifth overseas operation begun by the FCEDA.
Prasad Tagat, president of Bulls Eye Media Group, will promote Fairfax County to Indian firms located in Bangalore, the city that is the center of India’s technology industry. Tagat has more than 20 years experience working in India, Europe and the U.S. In 1999 he founded Bulls Eye Media Group, an online advertising and PR firm with offices in Bangalore and Fairfax.
“The Indian technology industry is experiencing tremendous growth and we want to be in place in Bangalore to help companies when they decide on expanding to the U.S.,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “Our 4,800 technology companies and our location near the nation’s capital and Washington Dulles International Airport make Fairfax County a natural location for expanding Indian companies, and being on the ground in India helps us spread the word about the opportunities here.”
“Many people are concerned about U.S. jobs going to India. This office will reverse that trend by creating jobs in the U.S.,” Dr. Gordon said.
Fairfax County is home to more than 4,800 technology firms and almost 300 foreign-owned companies. Nine Indian companies have offices in Fairfax County, including Guru Infotech (Epiance), HCL Technologies America, Indotronix and Megasoft. More than $7.1 billion in U.S. federal government contracts are awarded annually to companies in Fairfax County.
In addition to the Bangalore office, the FCEDA’s other international locations are in London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, and the recently opened Tel Aviv, Israel, office. Fairfax County is the only U.S. county to have representation in five countries.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. The FCEDA also has a program to support the growth of small, minority and woman-owned firms.
