host Sept. 1 forum for small businesses
SBA financing and 8(a) certification will highlight session for growing companies
Fairfax County, Virginia, September 1, 2004 — The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and the League of Korean Americans (LOKA-USA) will present “Access to Capital: SBA's Financing,” an Emerging Business Forum (EBF) session on Wednesday, September 1. The forum will highlight federal programs targeted towards small and minority businesses.
Keynote speaker Robert Carpenter, loan specialist with the Washington, D.C. District Office, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will present the session on SBA financing. In addition, Stanley Fujii, also with the SBA’s Washington, D.C., District Office, will present a session on “8(a) Certification for Minority-Owned Businesses." James Dyke, chairman of the Emerging Business Forum and a partner with the law firm of McGuire Woods, and Peter Shin, LOKA-USA national chairman, will give welcoming remarks.
“This seminar will provide detailed information on SBA programs and we hope will increase Korean-Americans participation in federal contracts,” said Peter Shin, LOKA-USA national chairman. “Those who are already have federal contracts or hope to business with the federal government should come and meet with the experts and get answers to all their questions. I hope everyone in the business community will take full advantage of this rare opportunity.”
“One of the primary objectives of the Emerging Business Forum is to reach out to different business communities in northern Virginia,” said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the FCEDA. “This forum will further our goal of working closer with the growing Korean-American businesses community and help it be even more successful.”
In addition to the FCEDA and LOKA-USA, other local groups supporting this EBF event are the Korean American Association of Washington Metropolitan Area, Korean American Amateur Athletes Association and Korean American Senior Citizens' Association of Maryland.
