Chairman Harry Doyle leaves FCEDA Commission; ExxonMobil’s Steve Davis takes reins

Doyle served 13 years on panel overseeing Fairfax County economic growth

Fairfax County, Virginia, August 27, 2004 — Harry N. Doyle Jr., a member of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority Commission since June 1991 and chairman since July 2002, resigned during the August 17 commission meeting. Doyle retired from Verizon Communications earlier this year and is moving to Williamsburg, Virginia.

The Commission selected Steven L. Davis to succeed Doyle as chairman. Davis is Assistant Controller for Corporate Accounting Services at Exxon Mobil Corporation. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will fill the Commission vacancy created by Doyle’s resignation.

“It has been a terrific experience for me to be part of this organization as Fairfax County became a world-class business and technology center,” Doyle said during his last Commission meeting.

During Doyle’s tenure on the Commission, Fairfax County became one of the leading business locations and employment centers in the United States. Between 1990 and this year, Fairfax County:
• Expanded an aggressive business attraction and retention program that adds to the commercial tax base and helps fund public services.
• Added 34 million square feet of office space to the commercial tax base.
• Added more than 200,000 jobs to the local economy, about 40 percent of the total for the Washington, D.C., area.
• Lowered the real estate tax rate from $1.19 per $100 of assessed value to $1.13.

“Harry Doyle served as chairman for the last several years and as a commissioner for 13. He personifies leadership, community service and friendship. He has helped to make Fairfax County the extraordinary place it is today,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Steven Davis accept the role of chairman,” Gordon said. “His experience at ExxonMobil and his obvious leadership talents will keep Fairfax County a leading center of business growth and wealth creation in the United States.”

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Bangalore.
