Dates announced for 2005 monthly seminars on starting a business in Fairfax County

Workshops outline resources available to entrepreneurs

Fairfax County, Virginia, December 23, 2004 ­ The “Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business in Fairfax County” seminar schedule for 2005 has been published by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA).

The FCEDA hosts the monthly sessions in partnership with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (DBA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The sessions provide an overview of start-up basics (licenses and permits), DBA workforce service and training programs; and SBA financing and certification resources. New in 2005, representatives from the Fairfax County Public Library will be on hand to lend business-related books to interested borrowers and detail online resources available to patrons.

The workshops are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month, and begin at 8 a.m. There is no charge but pre-registration is required. Interested participants can register on the FCEDA’s Web site at www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org. The 2005 dates are:

“The workshops bring together budding and experienced entrepreneurs and provide them with information on starting a business in Fairfax County,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “Small businesses form the base of our economy, and these programs are a good example of how the FCEDA works to make Fairfax County the best place for any business to grow and succeed.”

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas marketing offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
