Fairfax County EDA welcomes Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to northern Virginia
Chamber leases space in FCEDA’s offices in Tysons Corner
Fairfax County, Virginia, June 11, 2004 —The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC) opened a northern Virginia location this week in the offices of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). The office will provide better access to VAHCC services to Hispanic businessmen and women in the Fairfax County area.
This is the first satellite location for the VAHCC. It is based in Richmond and works with the Hispanic/Latino communities to connect them to the business community statewide.
The most recent U.S. Census Bureau data counted 4,960 Hispanic-owned firms in Fairfax County with revenues of $665.4 million in 1997. The companies represented 36.2 percent of all Hispanic-owned firms in Virginia.
“Fairfax County is a strong business center and a natural location for our organization to open its Northern Virginia office and promote business opportunities for the Hispanic/Latino community,” said Rick Gonzalez, vice president for development for the VAHCC.
Among the groups VAHCC is involved with are the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (www.sfdc.org) the Fairfax Small Business Development Center (www.sbdc.org), the Community Business Partnership (www.cbponline.org) the Business Development Assistance Group (www.bdag.org) and the Hispanic Committee of Virginia.
“Having the Hispanic Chamber located with us will help us reach the Hispanic-owned business community more effectively and build that sector of our economy,” said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the FCEDA.
VAHCC joins three other organizations that are co-located with the FCEDA: the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Northern Virginia Workforce Investment Board and the Hungarian Technology Center.
VAHCC (www.vahcc.com) enhances business growth and opportunities for Hispanics/Latinos by providing a link for business and cultural resources, through valuable products, services, activities and strategic partnerships within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The FCEDA (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA has a program to assist small, minority and woman-owned firms. The FCEDA also maintains marketing offices in London, Frankfurt and Tokyo, and in 2004 will open offices in Bangalore, India, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
