Fairfax County EDA works with 28 companies that will create 3,576 jobs
Thriving economy led by IT services firms
Fairfax County , Virginia, May 2, 2005 More than 3,500 jobs – many in information technology-related fields – were or will be added to the Fairfax County economy by 28 companies that utilized Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) services and resources during the first quarter of the year.
The largest announcement in the first quarter came from Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), the largest employee-owned research and engineering firm in the United States and one of the largest employers in Fairfax County. SAIC said it would create 2,027 new jobs in Fairfax County this year.
IT integrator Gray Hawk Systems, which is relocating its corporate headquarters to Fairfax County, announced it would add 270 jobs to the Fairfax County economy. SteelCloud, which develops network security products and services, is relocating its operations to Fairfax County and will add 131 jobs to the county’s economic base. Companies from Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland also announced they would create jobs in the county.
“SAIC has been able to expand in Fairfax County for many years because of it has the kind of experienced workforce that we need and the quality of life that our employees want,” said Karen Price, SAIC assistant vice president and staffing director for U.S. operations. “SAIC has also been able to count on the services of the Fairfax County EDA to help the company grow and thrive here.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as the nation’s top-rated public school systems that contribute to the quality of life. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
