Fairfax County EDA sponsors life sciences seminar in Berlin, Germany

May 12 seminar assists German firms interested in U.S. market

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, April 29, 2005 German firms interested in selling life sciences products and services in the United States can attend a May 12 seminar in Berlin organized by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), Berlin Business Development Corporation and Economic Development Saxony GmbH.

“Entering the U.S. Life Sciences Market” is an afternoon-long workshop that will focus on four primary topics: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval procedures, product liability issues, intellectual property protection and marketing in the United States. Speakers include Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA; Dr. Thomas Haag, a Washington, D.C.-based attorney with McDermott, Will and Emery; Francis Stockwell, chief underwriter at Medmarc, a Fairfax County-based insurance company; and Dr. Holger Wenschuh, managing director of JPT Peptide Technologies GmbH, which is based in Berlin and has a U.S. location at the Fairfax County BioAccelerator, a bioscience-focused business incubator.

“The Washington, D.C. area is an incredibly strong market for firms in the life science products industry,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “ Fairfax County’s proximity to the federal government and institutions such as the Food and Drug Administration makes us a great location for overseas companies interested in this business sector.”

The seminar will take place May 12, 2005, from 1-6 p.m. at the Ludwig Erhard Haus (Fasanenstr. 85, Berlin). The cost to attend is 50 euros; the seminar will be conducted in English. For more information or to attend, contact Lisa Marie Benz, tel. +49-30-39980-236 or by e-mail at lisa.benz@wfbi.de .
