Nineteen Fairfax County companies among fastest growing in D.C. area
Thirty-one northern Virginia companies honored at Tysons Corner event
Fairfax County , Virginia, January 13, 2005 -- Nineteen Fairfax County-based companies were among 31 northern Virginia companies honored Jan. 13 for being named to the Washington Business Journal’s 2004 list of the 51 fastest growing companies in the Washington area.
Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Michael J. Schewel and local government and economic development officials congratulated the northern Virginia companies at the event, which was held at the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority headquarters in Tysons Corner.
In addition to the 19 companies from Fairfax County, six are from Arlington County, three are from Loudoun County, two are from the City of Alexandria and one is from the City of Fairfax. The Washington Business Journal based its list on average annual revenue growth from 2001 to 2003.
“It is tremendously satisfying to see the number of Fairfax County companies on this list,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “Our technology community is well represented, but the list also includes a home builder and an investment firm, so it reflects our diversified economy well.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as the nation’s top-rated public school systems that contribute to the quality of life. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas marketing offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London and Tel Aviv, and in 2005 will open an office in Seoul, South Korea.
