“Fairfax County: Creating a Modern Economy” to air on county cable Channel 16 in February
Eight community leaders describe transformation of county into economic leader
Fairfax County, Virginia, January 28, 2005 -- “Fairfax County: Creating a Modern Economy,” a DVD created and produced by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to highlight Fairfax County’s transformation into one of the world’s most prominent business and technology centers, will be broadcast in February by Fairfax County’s Channel 16.
The series is comprised of interviews with eight community leaders about how Fairfax County changed from a leading dairy center into a bedroom community for Washington, D.C., and then into a location for six Fortune 500 companies, more than 4,700 technology businesses and almost 300 foreign-owned firms. The series makes it clear that the transformation came as the result of vision, planning and hard work of many people who saw the potential for Fairfax County to become the economic engine of the Washington area and Virginia.
Channel 16 is serializing the video on four consecutive Sundays by broadcasting two interviews per segment:
- Sunday, February 6, 11 a.m. to noon: Mayo Stuntz, historian; and John "Til" Hazel, real estate developer and attorney
- Sunday, February 13, 11 a.m. to noon: J. Hamilton Lambert, county executive (1980-1990); and Earle Williams, business and community leader
- Sunday, February 20, 11 a.m. to noon: George Johnson, George Mason University president (1978-1996); and James Wilding, Metropolitan Washington Airports president and CEO (1987-2003)
- Sunday, February 27, 11 a.m. to noon: Robert E. Simon, Reston founder and planner; and Robert Kahn, Father of the Internet and president of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives.
