Fairfax County community of Vienna ranked a top place to live in the U.S.

Money magazine also cites communities of McLean, Great Falls, Fairfax Station

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, July 11, 2005 – Money magazine today ranked the Fairfax County town of Vienna number four on its “Best Places to Live 2005” rankings for the U.S. The rankings can be found on the magazine’s Web site.

The magazine touts Vienna’s proximity to job centers, good schools, cultural attractions such as Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and nearby historical sites.

Three other Fairfax County communities were named to additional lists compiled by Money. McLean is ninth of the “Most Educated” list with 41 percent of residents holding graduate degrees. Great Falls topped the country in the “Biggest Earners” category with a median household income of $ 165,592 and Fairfax Station was ranked sixth on that list with a median household income of $147,927.

“Our organization promotes Fairfax County as a business location, but the real value of economic development is that it creates wealth and improves the quality of life for those who live and work here. The Money magazine rankings, like all the national rankings in which Fairfax County places well, reflect the real value of economic development," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.

Fairfax County is home to six Fortune 500 companies, more than 4,700 technology companies and more than 330 foreign-owned firms. It has one of the highest concentrations of successful minority-owned companies in the nation. Fairfax County has one of the highest median household income levels in the country and boasts an unemployment rate far below the national average.

Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as the nation’s top-rated public school systems and award-winning library and park services that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org), which has been recognized by Site Selection magazine as one of the top economic development groups, promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
