Fairfax County EDA honored as one of top economic development organizations
Site Selection magazine cites job creation and area vitality for 2004 awards
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, June 20, 2005 The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) has been named one of the top 10 economic development groups by Site Selection magazine. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors today presented a certificate to the FCEDA Commission in recognition of the honor.
Site Selection , published by Conway Data, Inc., is written for corporate executives who make decisions about business locations. The magazine (www.siteselection.com) featured the list in its May issue. Ronald J. Starner, Conway Data director of publications, wrote about how his group picked the winning organizations for 2004:
“Award winners were selected according to their overall performance in the following categories: Total capital investment; jobs created; investment per capita; jobs per capita; overall economic vitality; depth and breadth of economic strength; diversity of industry; ability to generate breakthrough deals; and the overall quality of the group's nomination package, including verifiable documentation.”
In 2004, the FCEDA worked with 144 companies that said they would add more than 11,000 jobs to the Fairfax County economy. Last year, the FCEDA hired marketing/investment representatives in Bangalore, India, and Tel Aviv, Israel, and organized Emerging Business Forum workshops with Korean and Hispanic business organizations in Fairfax County. More than 4,700 technology companies, six Fortune 500 companies and almost 300 foreign-owned firms are in the county.
“As success has many fathers and mothers, the economic development of Fairfax County has many who deserve credit – past and present,” said Gerald L. Gordon, president and CEO of the FCEDA. “This includes the strong and consistent political and financial support from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the incredible support of the business community here as well as the highly dedicated and professional staff that promotes this as a great place to do business.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as the nation’s top-rated public school systems that contribute to the quality of life. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
