Six Fairfax County companies named to annual Black Enterprise 100 list

Only four states have more ranked companies than Fairfax County

Fairfax County , Virginia , May 23, 2005 ­ Six Fairfax County-based companies, including five federal contractors in information technology fields, are among the 100 largest African American-owned service/industrial firms in the country, according to Black Enterprise magazine. The magazine ranks the companies by revenue and features the 2005 list in its June edition.

Four other companies from Virginia are on the BE 100 list. The only locality with more companies on the list than Fairfax County is Detroit (eight). Only four states have more companies on the list than Fairfax County: Michigan (15), Georgia (nine), Texas (nine) and Ohio (eight). Six companies from Maryland and California are on the list.

The six Fairfax County companies ranked on the 2005 BE 100 list are:

Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). “ Fairfax County is the best place in America for minority and woman-owned companies to locate and grow."

In 2001, the FCEDA began the Emerging Business Forum ( www.emergingbusinessforum.org), conferences and workshops that help minority and female entrepreneurs accelerate the growth of their businesses through access to partners, customers and capital sources. The next workshop will take place in fall 2005.

Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as the nation’s top-rated public school system that contribute to the quality of life. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business location. The FCEDA identifies possible sites and facilities and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
