“Starting a Business in Fairfax County” Seminars continue in 2006
Workshops assist entrepreneurs with needed information
Fairfax County , Virginia, November 23, 2005 The popular “Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business in Fairfax County” seminars will continue in 2006 with nine dates scheduled for the upcoming year. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) conducts the workshop for individuals interested in beginning a business in Fairfax County.
The FCEDA hosts the monthly sessions in partnership with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (DBA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The sessions provide an overview of start-up basics (licenses and permits); DBA workforce service and training programs; and SBA financing and certification resources.
The workshops are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month and begin at 8 AM with refreshments and networking. There are no workshops scheduled for July, August or December 2006. The session is free but pre-registration is required. Interested participants can register on the FCEDA’s Web site at www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org.

“These workshops are enormously successfully and are providing a great service to Fairfax County’s budding entrepreneurs,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “Small businesses form the base of our economy, and these programs are a good example of how the FCEDA works to make Fairfax County the best place for any business to grow and succeed.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services, such as the nation’s top-rated school system, that contribute to the quality of life of its residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and is a source for up-to-date demographic and economic information. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of minority and woman-owned businesses. The FCEDA maintains overseas marketing offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
