Global IT services provider STPL opens first U.S. location in Fairfax County
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, October 24, 2005 -- Software Technology Park Ltd. (STPL), part of a $350 million group of companies that provide information technology and business support services from offices worldwide, has opened its first U.S. location in Fairfax County, minutes from Washington, D.C.
STPL (www.stplglobal.com) offers a wide range of IT skills from data processing, application development to customized software development, and has targeted the private sector and government markets in the U.S. The company was established in 2000 in the United Kingdom and now has offices there, in India and in several countries in Africa. It has taken office space in the Fairfax area of the county near the Vienna Metro Station.
“ Fairfax County is a great place for us to launch U.S. operations because of the market opportunities in both the government and private sectors and because of its central location on the east coast,” said STPL President Vincent Fernandez. “We found invaluable support from Fairfax County in matters ranging from introductions to local alliances, office space, business research, and other nuts and bolts to setting up the business.”
STPL worked with Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) representatives in the U.K., in India and in Fairfax before choosing the location. The authority established operations in London in 1999 and in Bangalore, India, in 2005.
“STPL is a good example of the kind of impact our overseas operations can have in helping foreign-owned companies decide whether Fairfax County is the right location for them,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “Furthermore, we focus on service after companies are here. As companies like STPL grow and succeed, we regard that as a success for Fairfax County as well.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County, minutes from Washington, D.C., fund public services such as a top-ranked public school system and library, public safety, social services and park systems that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County offers diverse real estate opportunities, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a business community based on technology and professional services, and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org), which has been recognized by Site Selection magazine as one of the top economic development groups, promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains overseas offices in Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
