Fairfax County EDA works with 39 companies that will add 2,252 jobs to local economy

Technology and professional services firms once again lead job creation

Fairfax County , Virginia, August 4, 2006 - More than 2,250 jobs were or will be added to the Fairfax County economy by 39 companies that used Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) services and resources during the second quarter of 2006. Most of the firms announcing new jobs are information technology or professional services companies.

Companies announcing job growth include Communications Technologies Inc., which develops broadband over power line systems, IT services firm Information Innovators, accounting and consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, United Kingdom-based software firm Strategic Thought, and India-based IT services firm Goldstone Technologies.

“The continued strength of the IT sector in Fairfax County is once again reflected in our quarterly job numbers,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “As these companies grow and succeed, they add to the business tax base that helps support our quality of life.”

 “Strategic Thought has benefited from being in Fairfax County because of the access we have to a highly skilled pool of potential employees, and the fact that our employees have access to great county services and quality of life,” said Karl Pringle, general manager of Strategic Thought, which has won contracts with NASA and is working with U.S. companies. “We have found the services of the Fairfax County EDA to be helpful in building our business and getting connected here.”

Business growth helps Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., fund public services such as a top-ranked public school system and library, public safety, social services and park systems that improve the quality of life.
