UK company in Fairfax County wins software contract with NASA
Strategic Thought’s Active Risk Manager For Exploration Systems Mission Directorate
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, January 10, 2006 – A British company with operations in Herndon won a major new contract with NASA to provide risk management software.
Strategic Thought Inc., which is based in London, said the contract is worth more than £950,000 (US$1.7 million). NASA’s Exploration Systems Mission Directorate led the deal to purchase the software known as Active Risk Manager™ (ARM), which is a Web-based enterprise risk management system and will be used across the agency.
Karl Pringle, General Manager of Strategic Thought Inc, said: “We are delighted that the mutual vision that Strategic Thought and NASA had three years ago has come to fruition. Many of our existing customers are also pleased as this NASA standardisation approach on Active Risk Manager enhances their business opportunities with the Agency.”
And Dr Gerald Gordon Ph D, President and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.fairfaxcountyeda.org) added: "I am delighted to see the kind of success that Strategic Thought is having in Fairfax County. Strategic Thought is a perfect example of how a UK company can come here to take advantage of our location and use us as a gateway into the US market."
Strategic Thought Group developed ARM. Pringle said it will be used to support the implementation of NASA’s Integrated Collaborative Environment (ICE).
“The purpose of the ICE is to provide an environment for sharing, collaborating, integrating, accessing and controlling the management information and product data within the Exploration Systems Mission Directorate (ESMD),” he said. “This will go some way to ensure successful NASA endeavors for this and future generations.”
Strategic thought was founded in 1987 as a technology and services company. It has offices in London and Herndon in Fairfax County and specialises in application integration projects and the provision of enterprise risk management software. Active Risk Manager is its flagship product.
In 2004, President Bush directed NASA to embark on a space exploration program that would advance the nation’s scientific, security and economic interests. The Exploration Systems Mission Directorate is responsible for carrying out this vision, and it implemented ICE to support the goal.
NASA’s Office of Safety and Mission Assurance initially installed and supported Active Risk Manager at the Stennis Space Centre in Mississippi for its life-cycle risk management process. Active Risk Manager is used to track and monitor risks and for mitigation strategies.
Business growth helps Fairfax County, minutes from Washington, D.C., fund public services, such as the nation’s top-rated school system, that contribute to the quality of life of its residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a variety of real estate options, state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.
