Business counseling sessions scheduled for remainder of 2006
Dr. Harry Salinas, retired federal government executive, is new SCORE counselor
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, July 14, 2006 — Business counseling sessions for the second half of 2006 have been scheduled by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). The sessions are provided through an arrangement with the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and are designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners start or grow their firms.
The FCEDA SCORE representative is Harry R. Salinas, Ph.D., a human resources and civil rights expert. In 2005, Dr. Salinas retired from Federal Government after a 35 year career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. Dr. Salinas is the founder HR Salinas Associates, a private consulting firm, which provides human resources and civil rights consulting services in the Washington D.C. metro area.
The hour-long one-on-one sessions with the FCEDA SCORE counselor will take place every Wednesday at the FCEDA’s Tysons Corner offices. There is no fee for the service, however, appointments must be scheduled in advance on the FCEDA's SCORE page.
“The SCORE counseling sessions are just one of many services we provide to entrepreneurs in Fairfax County,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “It is an honor to have someone as experienced as Dr. Salinas as our resident SCORE counselor.”
Entrepreneurs can also take attend a free monthly workshop presented by the FCEDA. “Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business in Fairfax County.” Held in partnership with the Virginia Department of Business Assistance (DBA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the sessions provide an overview of start-up basics (licenses and permits), DBA workforce service and training programs; and SBA financing and certification resources.
Established in 1964, SCORE (www.score.org) is a nonprofit organization that provides free and confidential small business advice to entrepreneurs. The organization is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
