Austrian and German life science and medical device firms have chance to learn about U.S. expansion possibilities

Fairfax County, Virginia, teams up with Austrian and German groups for presentations

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, March 13, 2006 -- Austrian and German firms interested in selling life science products and services in the United States are invited to attend a March 21 seminar in Innsbruck, Austria, or a March 23 seminar in Erlangen, Germany, organized by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), Forum MedTech Pharma e.V./Bayern Innovativ in Germany and Kompetenzzentrum Medizin Tirol in Austria.

“Marktzugang USA - Zulassung, Produkthaftung und Vertrieb” (“Market Access USA – Approval, Product Liability and Sales”) is an afternoon-long workshop that will focus on four topics: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval procedures, product liability issues, intellectual property protection and marketing in the United States.

Speakers include Thomas A. Haag, Ph.D., J.D., a Washington, D.C.-based patent attorney with McDermott Will & Emery LLP; Thomas A. Konopka, senior vice president of Medmarc Insurance Group, based in Chantilly Virginia; and Philip M. Reilly, CFO of Chantilly-based Kol Bio-Medical Instruments. A panel discussion with CEOs of German and Austrian life science companies that already operate in the U.S. will conclude the seminar.

“The Washington, D.C. area is an incredibly strong market for firms in the life science products industry,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “ Fairfax County’s proximity to the federal government and institutions such as the FDA makes us a great location for overseas companies.”

The cost to attend this seminar is €40 for members of Forum MedTech Pharma or Kompetenzzentrum Medizin Tirol and €160 for non-members. The seminar will be conducted in English. For more information or to attend, contact Forum MedTech Pharma at (+49 (0) 911-20671-335) or med@forum-medtech-pharma.de; or Kompetenzzentrum Medizin Tirol at (+43 (0) 512-576526) or office@kmt.at. The program is available here.
