Fairfax County EDA works with 31 companies that will add 967 jobs to local economy

Technology and professional services firms once again dominate the list

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, November 2, 2006 Almost 1,000 jobs were or will be added to the Fairfax County economy by 31 companies that used Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) services and resources during the third quarter of 2006. Most of the firms announcing new jobs are information technology or professional services companies.

Companies announcing job growth include next generation Internet specialist Command Information which will add 300 jobs in the next 12 months, and management consultancy Infinitive, which will add 100 employees to its payroll. Ten Korean firms and two firms each from Japan and Israel are among the 31 companies planning to expand in the county.

“We are delighted that the job base in Fairfax County continues to grow,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “ U.S. and foreign-owned firms that fill office space create a demand for new construction, which yields new tax revenue and enables the county Board of Supervisors to provide high-quality public services and minimize the tax burden for residents.”

“We recognized that Fairfax County is a hot bed for talented employees and close in proximity to our clients in the Greater Washington region,” said Denis McFarlane, CEO of Infinitive. “Establishing a presence in Fairfax County has been instrumental to our success in recruiting talented consultants and servicing our clients.”

Business growth helps Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., fund public services such as a top-ranked public school system and library, public safety, social services and park systems that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County offers diverse real estate opportunities, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a business community based on technology and professional services, and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority ( www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org), which has been recognized by Site Selection magazine as one of the top economic development groups, promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA assists businesses by identifying possible sites and facilities, and provides demographic and economic statistics. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors, and another program supports the growth of small and minority-owned companies. The FCEDA maintains offices worldwide in Silicon Valley, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
