Fifty-two Fairfax County companies honored for growing achievements

December 5 event recognized fastest- growing firms and minority-owned companies from across northern Virginia

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, December 6, 2006 -- Fifty-two Fairfax County companies were honored at the 2006 Celebration of Northern Virginia Business Success on December 5 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. Twenty-five of the firms were named to the Washington Business Journal’s Fastest Growing Companies list. Twenty-seven companies were on lists of the largest minority- and woman-owned firms in the United States as ranked by Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines and the DiversityBusiness.com Web site.

State and local government and economic development officials who attended the award presentation included Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Patrick O. Gottschalk and Gerald E. Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) organized the event.

In addition to the Fairfax County companies, firms located in Arlington and Prince William counties and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church and Manassas also were honored at the event.

“Once again Fairfax County has reason to celebrate as our business community is lauded by national and local business media,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “The companies vividly illustrate the diversity and breadth of the Fairfax County business community that creates jobs and is a huge factor in the high quality of life here.”

Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services, such as the nation’s top-rated school system and library, park, public safety and human services, which contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of minority- and woman-owned businesses. The FCEDA maintains offices in Silicon Valley, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
