British trade mission to meet with Fairfax County officials, technology firms
FCEDA brings together trans-Atlantic leaders in security and technology
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, October 31, 2006 – More than 20 British firms in the security and technology industries will meet with American counterparts and local officials during an event organized by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI). “Business Opportunities with Local and State Government: Procurement in Security and Emergency Management” will take place November 3, 2006, at the Fairfax County Government Center.
The British companies are in the United States as part of the “UK Technologies for Security Mission to the USA” trip organized by UKTI. The British-American Business Association and the Northern Virginia Technology Council are supporters of the November 3 event. More information about the event is here.
Emergency, technology and procurement officials from Fairfax County will address the British executives about emergency management preparations, homeland security and procurement opportunities. Executives from Fairfax County firms that specialize in those industries will also attend the event to network with their British counterparts and have one-on-one meetings.
About 50 companies from the United Kingdom are already located in Fairfax County, including BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Serco, Strategic Thought and 2sms. The proximity to the federal government, the convenience of direct flights to U.K. cities from Washington Dulles International Airport and the five-hour time difference are all factors in why so many British companies chose northern Virginia as a U.S. base of operations.
“The United Kingdom is a very strong market for us,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “T his event is an excellent opportunity for IT and security companies from the U.S. and the U.K. to meet and explore business opportunities.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services, such as the nation’s top-rated school system and library, park, public safety and human services, which contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of minority- and woman-owned businesses. The FCEDA maintains offices in Silicon Valley, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
