Fairfax County EDA featured in NPR story about growth of foreign-owned businesses in Washington area

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, November 29, 2007 – National Public Radio (NPR) today featured the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and several companies in a “Morning Edition” story today about the increase in foreign-owned businesses in the Washington area.

The story included comments from FCEDA President/CEO Jerry Gordon, who noted that foreign-owned companies diversify the Fairfax County economy and the community. More than 350 companies from 37 countries have operations in Fairfax County, and these companies employ more than 18,000 people in the county.

The FCEDA (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA maintains an aggressive marketing effort in key overseas locations to attract technology companies that are interested in expanding in the U.S. market. The FCEDA also maintains marketing offices in Silicon Valley, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.

The NPR story also featured comments from representatives of two foreign-owned companies with a presence in Fairfax County: United Kingdom-based Strategic Thought and South Korea-based JIRIS. Also mentioned were three other companies with offices in Fairfax County: U.K.-based BAE Systems, U.K./Italy-based AgustaWestland and Germany-based Software AG. The story is on the NPR Web site.

Business growth helps Fairfax County, just outside of Washington, D.C., fund programs, such as a top-rated school system and public safety and human services programs, which contribute to the quality of life of its residents. Fairfax County hosted the 2007 National Conference on the Creative Economy (www.creativeeconomies.org) on October 24 and 25.
