annual
Fortune
500 list
Maryland, 29 other states can’t
match Fairfax County total

Mac leads the list of seven Fairfax County-based companies
on Fortune magazine’s 2007 list of the 500 largest publicly
traded companies in America. The home mortgage company joins
six Fairfax County companies named to the Fortune list in each
of the last two years.
The companies from Fairfax County, minutes from Washington,
D.C., are among 17 Fortune 500 companies from Virginia. Fairfax
County had more companies on the list than 30 states. Six companies
from Maryland made the list, as did two from Washington, D.C.
Fortune bases its rankings on annual revenue. The 2007 list
is online at http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2007/.
Exxon Mobil, which is based in Texas but runs downstream
operations in Fairfax County, is ranked second on the Fortune
500 list.
“In recent months Time magazine called Fairfax County
one of the great economic success stories of our time, and
the latest Fortune 500 list is a true reflection of that success.
These seven companies also reflect the creativity and diversity
of the county’s businesses and workforce and represent
the leading companies in their selected fields. We’re
proud that they call Fairfax County home,” said Gerald
L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic
Development Authority.

park systems that improve the quality of life. Fairfax County
