Fairfax County high school ranked the best in the nation;
two other county schools make U.S. News top 100 list
Good schools crucial for Fairfax County business development, creative workforce
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, November 30, 2007 – In its first-ever ranking of “America’s Best High schools,” U.S. News & World Report ranks Fairfax County’s Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology as the top high school in the United States. Two other Fairfax County Public Schools, Langley High School in McLean and Oakton High School, are in the top 100 as ranked by the magazine.

“One of the primary reasons that businesses come to, and stay in, Fairfax County is the quality of its public education system. The schools develop the creative workforce of the future,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. “Although Thomas Jefferson has been ranked first in the entire nation, all 25 Fairfax County high schools are the envy of communities across the nation.”
“Having three of our schools in the top rankings – one rated tops in the nation – is more evidence that our school system is one of the best in the nation, and possibly in the world,” said Jack Dale, superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools. “What is good for our young people is also great for Fairfax County's economy. Businesses want to be in our county because they know that their employees' children can get a great education in public schools and that our graduates make excellent, tech-savvy employees.”
Time magazine called Fairfax County, just outside Washington, D.C., “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” Business growth helps Fairfax County fund public services such as a top-ranked school system that improve the quality of life.
