FCEDA President and CEO receives Catholic University of America’s Alumni Achievement Award
Fairfax County, Virginia, USA, April 21, 2008—Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA)President and CEO Gerald Gordon is among this year’s distinguished Catholic University of America alumni recognized at an awards luncheon on April 12. Gordon received his doctorate in International Economics from CUA in 1981.
The luncheon, held at the university’s Pryzbyla Center, was emceed by Sheila Kast (B.A., 1971), former White House correspondent and host of National Public Radio’s “Maryland Morning.”
Gordon has been with the FCEDA since late 1983. In that time, office space in the county has grown from 32 million square feet to more than 107 million square feet, and jobs in the county has grown from 243,000 to more than 600,000. As a result, the real estate tax rate has decreased from $1.47 to 89 cents.
"I feel honored to have been recognized along with several men and women of extraordinary accomplishments,” said Dr. Gordon. “ To be considered by such an extraordinary institution is most rewarding.”
Dr. Gordon also holds a bachelor’s degree from The Citadel and a master’s degree from The George Washington University. He is the author of nine books and numerous articles on strategic planning, economic development, leadership styles, and other management topics.
Since 1949, the CUA Alumni Association annually recognizes alumni from the various schools of the University who have excelled in their fields of endeavor. A committee comprised of Alumni Board of Governors members selects the award winners. Previous recipients include actor Laurence Luckinbill, M.F.A. 1958; and former Democratic National Committee chair Terence R. McAuliffe, B.A. 1979.
