Fairfax County and Virginia host Seoul seminar to help Korean companies interested in U.S. expansion
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, February 27, 2008—The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today hosted a seminar entitled “Doing Business in Virginia and Fairfax County.” The evening seminar at the Grand InterContinental Hotel in Seoul covered a range of topics that companies should consider as they plan expansion to the United States, and highlighted Fairfax County and Virginia as prime locations for Korean companies that want to expand in the U.S.
The seminar was supported by the Small and Medium Business Corporation (SBC) of Korea, a government agency that assists Korean firms that want to expand in overseas markets. The SBC is the parent organization of the Korea Business Development Center, a business incubator that has helped many Korean companies locate and expand in Fairfax County.
The seminar included a case study of Mobilians International, Inc., a Korean company that develops electronic payment systems and has successfully located in Fairfax County. About 50 companies from Korea have a presence in Fairfax County, which is just outside of Washington, D.C., and next to Washington Dulles International Airport.
Fairfax County has a permanent marketing representative in Seoul to promote the county as a business location for Korean companies. The VEDP and the Virginia Port Authority maintain a joint office in Seoul to promote the state as a business location and develop Asian markets for Virginia goods.
Time magazine in 2007 called Fairfax County “one of the great economic success stories of our time,” and Forbes.com and CNBC in 2007 named Virginia the best place to do business in the U.S.
“This seminar will be an outstanding opportunity for Korean companies to learn about many issues involved in expanding into overseas markets and to learn why Fairfax County and Virginia are excellent choices for businesses that want to make the move into the U.S. market,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center in order to expand the county’s economy and tax base and support its outstanding quality of life. The FCEDA maintains marketing offices in San Francisco, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (www.YesVirginia.org) serves companies seeking a prime business location and increased trade opportunities and to foster increased expansion of the Commonwealth's economy. The VEDP cultivates new business investment, fosters international trade growth and encourages the expansion of existing Virginia businesses.
