Northern Virginia's three congressmen honor successful area businesses
2008 Celebration of Northern Virginia Business Success spotlights 60 companies
Fairfax County, Virginia USA, January 23, 2008 --- Northern Virginia’s three members of Congress – Rep. Frank R. Wolf (10th District), Rep. James P. Moran (8th District) and Rep. Tom Davis (11th District) –spoke today at an award presentation honoring 60 northern Virginia companies. Also attending the 2008 Celebration of Northern Virginia Business Success at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner were Gerald E. Connolly, chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and other elected and economic development officials from around northern Virginia. The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA, www.FairfaxCountyEDA.org) organized the event.
Of the 60 companies honored, 44 are based in Fairfax County. Sixteen businesses, located in Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William counties or the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Manassas, also were spotlighted. A list of the companies is at www.fairfaxcountyeda.org/business_celebration_honorees.htm.
The businesses honored at the event were named to the Washington Business Journal’s Fastest Growing Companies list, or lists published by Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines and the DiversityBusiness.com Web site of the nation’s largest minority- or woman-owned companies.
“The U.S. Department of Labor last year described Fairfax County as the private-sector job leader in the Washington area, and this event again highlights the work that we have done to build a strong local economy,” said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. “The success of these companies bodes well for the future of this economy in job and wealth creation but also in benefits such as a larger commercial tax base that helps local officials fund services and programs.”
Business growth helps Fairfax County fund the nation’s top-rated school system and library, park, public safety and human services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to domestic and international markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, and a well-educated workforce.
The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority promotes Fairfax County as a business and technology center. The FCEDA’s Capital Attraction Program links technology entrepreneurs with potential investors. Another program supports the growth of minority- and woman-owned businesses. The FCEDA maintains offices in San Francisco, Bangalore, Frankfurt, London, Seoul and Tel Aviv.
