Five business people honored by Fairfax County EDA, Virginia and U.S. Commerce Department

Honorees receive certificates for completing "Exporting 101" workshop series

Fairfax County, Virginia USA, March 31, 2008 – Five business people received certificates for completing “Exporting 101,” the 2008 series of workshops organized by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) and the U.S. Commercial Service – U.S. Department of Commerce. The workshops were developed to assist entrepreneurs in navigating the fundamentals of exporting.

Receiving certificates were Jose Luis Ayala, who exports goods to Colombia; Tim Francis, who has a two-year-old computer sales and service business; Maritza Muñoz, who wants to export women’s clothing and accessories to South America; Rane Peppard, whose services include electrical contracting; and Humphrey Rutherford, a customer service firm owner.

The five received their certificates from Gerald Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA; Jenee Andreev, international trade manager for VEDP; Gus Grace, senior business development officer, Export-Import Bank, and Clem Miller, administrative vice president of M&T Bank.

“These workshops help local business people expand into new markets, which builds their companies and creates jobs and wealth for Fairfax County,” Gordon said. “This is another service that the FCEDA provides to build the commercial tax base, which the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors uses to fund programs and services.”

The FCEDA hosted the workshops on January 29, February 26 and March 25, 2008. Sessions highlighted state and federal government resources for exporters, how businesses can research their markets, the exporting process and export financing.

In addition to this export workshop series, the FCEDA provides counseling services on international trade through an arrangement with the VEDP. Counseling is free, but appointments are required. To meet with the representative, call 703-790-0600.
