County Expands Its Relationship with the International Technology Community
Fairfax County, Virginia, June 24, 1998 To continue its place as a leading center for information technology and to build on the relationships begun at the 1998 World Congress, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) announced today its early involvement with the 2000 World Congress on Information Technology. Fairfax County will be a Platinum Level sponsor at the next World Congress in June 2000 in Taipei, Taiwan.
"Through our involvement with the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology, we have seen how beneficial it is to foster connections throughout the worlds information technology community," said Patricia M. Woolsey, chairman of the FCEDA Commission. "Continuing relationships like these will be essential to Fairfax Countys growth as a technology center."
As part of the agreement with the 2000 planners, all United States marketing efforts for the Taipei World Congress will be based out of the FCEDAs Tysons Corner offices. Additionally, Fairfax County companies seeking to do business in Taiwan will have the opportunity to establish relationships through the U.S. 2000 World Congress office.
Arthur Hwa, the executive director of the 2000 World Congress on Information Technology, said, "I admire the unreserved support that Fairfax County has rendered to the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology. Theyve set an excellent example for our Municipal Government of Taipei."
Hwa added that Fairfax Countys sponsorship of the 1998 and 2000 World Congresses facilitates the long-term relationship between technology industries in Taiwan and Fairfax.
The 1998 World Congress on Information Technology offers technology business leaders from around the world a historic opportunity to meet. At the 1998 World Congress, more than 1,800 information technology leaders from 92 countries gathered to network and share perspectives on the future of the global impact of information technology. Fairfax County, in partnership with the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) won the opportunity to host the 1998 World Congress as a result of Fairfax Countys emergence as an international information technology leader.
