Fairfax County Companies Among Inc. 500 Fastest Growing
Fairfax County, Virginia, November 12, 1998 Eighteen of the 500 fastest growing companies in America are located in Fairfax County, according to Inc magazines Inc. 500 list. All of the Fairfax County companies listed are part of the Countys booming information technology sector. Twenty-six Virginia-based companies were also named to the Inc. 500 list.
RS Information System, based in McLean, and Proxicom, based in Reston, were among the top 50 fastest growing companies. Additionally, Unitel, located in McLean; Indus, located in Vienna; and Creative Technology based in Reston were included in the fastest growing 100.
Known as the birthplace of the Internet and home to more than 100 Internet service providers, Fairfax County is also home to approximately 2,000 information technology companies one of the highest concentrations of information technology firms in the United States. Fairfax County is also a burgeoning center for venture capital and business expansion and relocation. In 1997 alone, $100 million was invested in Fairfax County companies and 158 firms announced relocation to or expansion in Fairfax County.

To be named to the Inc. 500, companies must be privately held; have sales of at least $200,000 in 1993; have a five-year sales history with an increase in 1997 sales over those of 1996; and not be a bank or utility.
