Fairfax County Companies Featured at Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair

Fairfax County, Virginia, November 16, 1998 — Eleven Fairfax County start-up companies will have an unprecedented opportunity to demonstrate their products and services to hundreds of venture capitalists at the 1998 Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair, the largest and most prestigious event of its kind on the East Coast.

The Fair, hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association (MAVA), will be held in Philadelphia on November 17th and 18th and will feature a total of 48 technology companies from around the Mid-Atlantic region, including 11 Fairfax County information technology companies.

According to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), a sponsor of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair, it is no surprise that a full one-quarter of the companies participating at the Fair are Fairfax County-based.

"Fairfax County has had unparalleled success in bringing together the country’s leading venture capitalists with the County’s cutting-edge companies," said Patricia M. Woolsey, chairman of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. "Venture capitalists are paying a lot of attention to Fairfax County as a key location for the up-and-coming companies of tomorrow."

The FCEDA began its Capital Attraction Program in 1997 and in the first six months of 1998, venture funding for Fairfax County-based companies grew by 81 percent. In 1997, MAVA held its annual Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair in Fairfax County, the first time the event was held outside of its traditional location of Philadelphia or Baltimore. The event was the most successful venture fair to-date, introducing more than 1,000 attendees to nearly 100 companies. MAVA recently opened a Fairfax County office co-located with the FCEDA in Tysons Corner.

Fairfax County-based companies participating in the 1998 Mid-Atlantic Venture Fair are:

  • Enlightened Technologies Associates, Inc., Fairfax
  • Integrated Chipware, Reston
  • Mindersoft, Inc., Herndon
  • MonoGen, Inc., Herndon
  • Nascent Technologies, Reston
  • Network Storage Solutions, Chantilly
