1998 World Congress on Information Technology Draws Two Technology Companies to Fairfax County
Fairfax County, Virginia, April 5, 1999 Two leading technology firms recently announced plans to open offices in Fairfax County, Virginia as a result of the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology. The firms, Tata Infotech and Sytel Systems & Telecommunications both cited the 1998 World Congress on Information Technology as a reason for their location decisions.
The announcement was made today by Patricia M. Woolsey, chairman of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) during a presentation to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors regarding FCEDA successes in 1998.
"Less than a year ago executives from Tata and Sytel attended the World Congress and saw first hand Fairfax County’s leading technology community," said Chairman Woolsey. "One of the primary reasons for hosting the World Congress was to show Fairfax County to the global technology community. These firms are the first to make investment decisions in Fairfax County because of the World Congress, but not the last."
Tata Infotech, the second largest software firm in India, is opening their new Fairfax County office in Tysons Corner. Sytel is one of the largest networking systems companies in the Washington, D.C. area. The company is expanding its presence in Fairfax County with an investment of $1 million that will create up to 300 new jobs over the next few years.
The 1998 World Congress on Information Technology took place in June 1998 at George Mason University in Fairfax County, Virginia. Nearly 2,000 executives from 94 countries gathered for four days to network and share perspectives on the future on the global impact of information technology. Fairfax County, in partnership with the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), won the opportunity to host the 1998 World Congress as a result of Fairfax County’s emergence as an international information technology leader.
