Two national magazines spotlight high-tech Fairfax County
Fairfax County, Virginia, August 18, 1999 -- The accolades continue to pour in as two national business magazines ran flattering stories about Fairfax County's and northern Virginia's dominance in the technology field. Forbes ASAP's article "Off Wall Street" reported that "The lights, glamour, and action of the high-finance show goes on, but it's not on Wall Street anymore. Would you believe its playing in the Virginia 'burbs?"
In "Between Silicon Valley and Silicon Alley", Business Week reporters focused on the extraordinary success of northern Virginia technology firms, including PSINet, UUNet, Network Solutions and Nextel, observing that "entrepreneurial fever is sweeping the Potomac. Hundreds of new companies are being started, particularly in the communications and Internet industries." "Enterprising techies are pumping new life into Washington's once-dreary, bureaucracy-obsessed culture," Business Week reported. "The region now has a pulse and some sizzle to supplant government-issue gray."
