Fairfax County, Virginia Targets Collegiate Job Fairs To Recruit Tech Workers
Fairfax County, Virginia, February 2, 1999 The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) is traveling to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on February 5 and February 18-19, to market Fairfax County, Virginia as a location for recent college graduates to begin their technology careers.
Fairfax County, Virginia is located in one of the nation’s top technology regions. There are about 23,000 available positions in the growing technology area. More than half of the technology companies in the Washington, D.C. region are in Fairfax County. FCEDA officials have been crossing the country from California to Massachusetts in search of more high-tech workers.
FCEDA officials also are letting students know about Fairfax County’s strong reputation for having one of the nation’s best public schools systems, its close proximity to the nation’s capital, and its wealth of natural resources, including bicycle and hiking trails.
"Fairfax County is an ideal place for college graduates to begin their careers," said Dr. Gerald L. Gordon, president of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. "This is a place where high tech workers can work on cutting edge technologies in the birthplace of the Internet."
"Last week we participated in the University of California at Berkley job fair. Nearly 200 students expressed interest in Fairfax County and its technology community," continued Gordon. The Northern Virginia Regional Partnership will receive the resumes of the interested students and pair them with local companies.
