Airports

Washington Dulles International Airport in Fairfax County, Virginia

Washington Dulles International Airport and Reagan Washington National Airport are the two primary commercial airports serving Fairfax County and Washington, D.C. Both of these airports are operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. A third airport, Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International, is located 38 miles north of Washington, D.C.

Washington Dulles International Airport, one of the fastest growing airports in the U.S., is 12 miles (19 km) from Tysons Corner and 26 miles (41.84 km) from downtown Washington, D.C. One of the largest transatlantic gateway in the United States, Dulles served 24.7 million passengers in 2007, including nearly 6million international passengers.

Thirty passenger airlines and four cargo integrators operate at Washington Dulles. Nonstop service is offered daily to 80 U.S. cities and 44 international locations.

Washington Dulles is undergoing a $3 billion capital construction program to better serve the growing air needs of the region. Improvements include an underground rail system, additional public parking, a new concourse and a new runway.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, located east of Fairfax County and two miles (3 km) south of Washington, D.C., serves nearly 18.7 million passengers a year with domestic commercial and commuter flights. Thirteen passenger airlines serve the airport and flights include daily nonstop service to 76 U.S. cities and direct service to two Canadian and two Caribbean cities.

Ground transportation between Washington Dulles and Reagan National airports is available through express bus, taxi and shuttle services.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is located 38 miles (51.5 km) from Fairfax County. BWI serves 48 passenger and cargo airlines and offers nearly 700 daily commercial flights to 59 domestic and 12 international destinations.
