Agilex Technologies

When was your company established?

While Agilex is a fairly young company – founded in 2007 – the company’s senior management team has deep roots in some of the region's most well-known IT and contracting companies.  Robert E. LaRose, our president and CEO, previously founded two successful information technology companies. First, Advanced Technology, Inc. (ATI), which grew to over 2,000 employees with $180M in revenue before being acquired by Emhart/Black & Decker in 1988, and Integic, which had revenue of approximately $180M and 600 employees when in 2005 it was acquired by Northrop Grumman. Agilex COO Jay Nussbaum has been recognized for his leadership of such esteemed organizations as Citibank Global Transaction Services, BearingPoint (where he was credited with the successful launch of the company's Managed Services organization), Oracle and Xerox. Under his management, Oracle Service Industries grew from $60 million to $1.5 billion.

What is the origin of your company name?

The idea behind Agilex was to combine the deep expertise typically found in a very large company with the agility and focus of a smaller, entrepreneurial firm.  Agility plus Expertise equals Agilex.

Who owns your company?

Agilex is self-funded, profitable and 100% employee-owned.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office?

Our 76,000 square foot Chantilly, Va. corporate headquarters is home to each of our sector businesses – Healthcare; Intelligence, Security & Defense; and Public Sector; as well as Agilex Advisory Services, our Technology Innovation Center and our Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility.

Who are your primary customers?

While we also serve the state and local market as well as the private sector, our primary focus is on the federal government.  We have three distinct business units aligned to serve the unique needs of the healthcare sector; the Intelligence, Homeland Security and Defense communities; and civilian agencies.  Specific clients include a number of intelligence agencies, the Military Health System, Department of Homeland Security, the Veterans Health Administration, NASA, the Department of Health & Human Services and the United States Postal Service.

What sets you apart from your competitors?

Agilex’ value proposition is our focus on delivering the expertise and resources of a large contractor coupled with the accountability and responsiveness of a best-of-breed vendor.  What makes us unique is that we’re delivering on this value proposition.  For example, we delivered the initial CONNECT gateway that is transforming government healthcare in just five months.  As a result, the company has grown fifteen-fold in just two years of operations.

How many employees do you have and how many do you anticipate hiring in the next 12 months?

We expect to be at around two hundred by the end of 2009.  In terms of hiring, we currently have almost fifty openings and we expect to add over one hundred positions in 2010.

What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?

A significant benefit is the ability to work closely with our clients throughout the metropolitan region.  It also provides us with access to a workforce that possesses significant skills and experience supporting major government programs.  By focusing on quality of life issues, Fairfax County also remains a great place to work and live.

Where do you see your business in five to 10 years?

Based on the proven track record of our founders and senior leadership team, becoming a major contractor with over 1,000 employees within this timeframe is a very achievable objective.
