When was your company established? 1975

What is the origin of your company name? Originally founded as American Communications Corporation (ACC), the name was changed to AMERICAN SYSTEMS in 1980.  The ACC name reflected our core service at that time, which was the design and installation of communications systems. As our portfolio of services grew, we changed the name to reflect that growth. We now focus on Professional, Technical, and IT Services; Consulting Services; Custom Solutions; Design and Installation Services; Human Capital Services; and Managed Services.

Who owns your company? AMERICAN SYSTEMS is a privately-held, majority-owned Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company. In other words, our employees own the company.

What is the main business focus of your Fairfax County office? Our Chantilly location serves as the Corporate headquarters for the Company’s infrastructure functions (eg., Business Development, Finance & Accounting, Contracts, IT, HR), as well as the base of operations for the Company’s Design & Installation Services division; Human Capital & Managed Services division; and Custom Solutions division. 

Who are your primary customers? We serve all offices, departments, and agencies within the Department of Defense, the National Intelligence Agencies and numerous federal civilian agencies, such as the Department of State, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the Department of the Interior, and the Department of Agriculture, to name a few. We also have a solid customer base within the private sector, mainly in the retail and general contracting community.

What sets you apart from your competitors?  We have 35 years of experience supporting our federal government, and we are one of the nation’s largest employee-owned companies.
   
What are the advantages of your Fairfax County location?  We are close to our major customer, the federal government, and our headquarters is near major interstates and airports. Additionally, Fairfax County has one of the most skilled labor forces in the country from which to recruit.

Where do you see your business in five to 10 years? Our strategic plan is to grow to a half billion dollars in annual revenue by 2014, largely through organic growth.
